Hi, my name is Carolin! I'm 40 years old and a certified midwife since February 2024. I offer prenatal and postnatal care in Hamburg-Barmbek. I also work in the L&D of AK Wandsbek.
I grew up in Germany, spent an exchange year in Canada, worked as an au pair in Spain and Norway, studied in Germany and Thailand and ended up living in Hamburg. This is where I was able to give birth to my kids in 2013 and 2015 with a Beleghebamme, who is a personal midwife that accompanies you to the hospital and takes care of you individually. Sadly, this service is very rare in Germany.
My motivation to become a midwife stems from my own positive birth experiences. I left my job as a project manager and consultant for internal communications in 2020 to study Midwifery at the HAW and UKE in Hamburg. Now I am able to support families during their pregnancy, birth and postpartum period based on scientific evidence as well as experience from a long tradition of midwifery in Germany.
If you have a German insurance, it extensively covers pre- and postnatal visits from your midwife. If you don't want to have all of your prenatal check ups at your OB GYN practice, I'm happy to do those in your home. After you gave birth, you are entitled to daily visits at home for the first 10 days. During these visits, your midwife checks your recovery and your baby's well-being. After the tenth day, your midwife can come see you another 16 times until your baby turns 3 months old. After that, there are 8 additional optional appointments if you are breastfeeding and/or weaning.
German health insurances also cover 14 hours of birth preparation classes for every pregnancy. In case you cannot attend a course held in German and aren't able to secure a spot in a course held in English, you can also get 1:1 classes prescribed by your OB/GYN. I am qualified to teach those as well.
I'd be happy to support you and your family, wether it's your first or fourth child. I'm comfortable speaking English and offer all of my services in both German and English.
